About
I spent 3.5 years here
Where to start? First off, you can call me Zeke.
Within this site you will find stories about motorcycling, WW2 Aviation, mostly B-17 related, travel, food and adventure. Oh yeah, a little bit of humor too.
Read on as I toot my horn and give you some background.
Career: I recently retired after spending 27 years as a California Peace Officer and am currently bleaching my bones in Texas. Over half of my career was spent on Police Motorcycles and have been riding motorcycles since age 16. I was a law enforcement instructor in Firearms, Collision Investigation, Police Motorcycle Operations, RADAR/LIDAR Operation and a court expert in Collision reconstruction, Firearms, Drug and Alcohol influence. I was a Sniper on the SWAT team for 8 years and spent 3 years as a White Collar/Computer crime Detective.
Motorcycling: Since 2003 my motorcycling evolved from weekend jaunts and over night rides to Long Distance riding, as I joined the ranks of Iron Butt Association. I now compete in motorcycle endurance events but not to win but for the personal challenge and to be around people who truly love to ride. For the past 7 years, I’ve organized rides for my friends, taking us to Canada and various locations in the Western U.S..
I spent 3 years with the Gold Wing Road Riders Association (GWRRA) as a chapter Educator and was an MSF Instructor for several years. I have completed the following IBA rides, the SS1000, Bun Burner, Bun Burner Gold and the 50CC. I have finished in the three times in the LOE1000 and twice in the Utah 1088 rally. In the 2008 Utah 1088, I rode 1,709 Miles in under 26 hours. I own 8 motorcycles and ride every chance I get.
Military and Aviation: I’ve always had a fascination with Aviation. My father was career Air Force and during WW2 served as an aerial Gunner on a B-17 bomber, he was also a combat veteran of Korea. I served in the USAF as an aircraft mechanic/welder and welded briefly at United Air Lines before entering law enforcement. My dad was also an aircraft mechanic and his brothers operated a Machining company in Covington, Ky. One of my uncles owned 8 aircraft and a hot air balloon, so I’ve been always around aircraft. In the early 90’s, I did my first solo airplane flight as a form of divorce therapy and obtained my private pilot certificate.
Affiliations: I belong to the following organizations, Commemorative Air Force, Sharkhunters International, 351st Bomb Group Assoc, BMW Owners of America (BMOA), GWRRA, Iron Butt Association, Motorcycle Endurance Riders Association (MERA), Blue Knights of Texas and LD riders.
Leisure: I use to be an avid backpacker and hunter. I consider myself an expert on camping and outdoor survival. I enjoy mountain lake fly fishing in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. I like dining out and have a certain fascination with food, often using it as a reason to ride.
It is my mission to get the most out of life and I have a list of things to do before I die but it seems endless. Anyway, short story long but it’ll give you an idea of where I am coming from.
