Lt. Audie Leon Murphy

Oh, there is gossip out there that the rights to Remake the Movie “To Hell and Back” have been purchased and is about two years out from being  a reality. It will be done along the lines of the Movie “Aviator” about Howard Hughes and will cover Audie’s life from childhood, War and beyond.

  1. I’ve thought about it some more–no, I still do not support awarding him a Presidential Medal of Freedom. I think they should make his birthday a Federal holiday, though, and get rid of Columbus Day. We need a Federal holiday in June, rather than October.

  2. Norman, either way I think the story of Audie Murphy needs to be retold. It is the epitome of what a poor rural boy can achieve in our great country. Thanks for your comments.

  3. The petitioner from the Audie Murphy site states all over the Internet that Audie Murphy is the most decorated soldier, WW2 while knowing that Lt. Col. Matt Urban, US Army, is considered to be the most decorated US combat soldier, WW2 since 1980 when President Carter awarded him the Medal of Honor and some other back decorations for WW2.

Matt Urban (”the Ghost”) has more medals and more decorations than Audie Murphy including 7 purple hearts.

“President Carter said, Matt Urban is the greatest soldier in American history. He showed that through terrible devastion courage can come out. His actions are a reminder to this Nation many years later what freedom really means.”

Matt Urban is not only an American war hero, but a lifetime community(s) hero; “The Matt urban Story”, 1989 by Matt Urban.

Audie Murphy deserves the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Audie Murphy didn’t take part in the Invasion of North Africa (Rommel), Normandy (D-Day), or the Battle of the Bulge (29,000 US KIA’S). Any infantryman who participated in these battles and others in WW2 and other wars deserves a Presidential Medal of Freedom and well.
