Switching to Plan B
4 July 2008 Friday
Well I thought I would check my rear tire again before leaving Santa Fe NM and I could see tire threads. Yesterday, I thought I would be able to make it to Lubbock but I’m not going to chance it. I have stopped in Lubbock before and had a tire changed on my ST1100.
The Metzler is coming apart faster than I anticipated, so rather than nurse it 316 miles to Lubbock with “Pucker Factor”, I decided I would rather wait in a Hotel room rather than on the shoulder of some back road highway.
Rear tire with 6,400 miles on it. I think the rally was harder on it than I thought. A quick POST on the LD Rider Forum got me text info on the nearest BMW motorcycle fixer. It’s nice to know even though your alone on the road, you’re really not. Thanks to all those LD Riders who sent me the addresses and numbers for Santa Fe repair resources.
I will see if Centaur Cycles in Sante Fe, a BMW authorized mechanic can fix her ASAP. Of course everything is closed on the 4th but they should be open tomorrow (Sat).
This will give me time to catch up on the last week of riding, get a tan and Veg out. It’s all part of the adventure.
